I just got done reading an article on Google News. It's a few days old - but that's fairly irrelevant. Here is a link to the full article from CBS News.
Here is a little exert from the article that hit a nerve.
"Simply put, it is not a benign drug," Kerlikowske said in response to a 2011 petition to legalize and regulate marijuana like alcohol. "Like many, we are interested in the potential marijuana may have in providing relief to individuals diagnosed with certain serious illnesses," he said. "To date, however, the FDA nor the Institute of Medicine have found smoked marijuana to meet the modern standard for safe or effective medicine for any condition."
Ok, first of all the FDA has never done studies - and if they have studied; they haven't shared the research. So how can they say anything definitively? What about doctors like Dr. Mahlberg and many others who claim it has MANY medicinal properties. Plus take in to consideration the fact that we are just now touching the surface of cannabis research. As soon as the FDA removes their proverbial "bottleneck" on marijuana research and clinical trials - I believe strongly that we will start to see a multitude of benefits, effects, and hopefully cures for diseases.
